Feature film: KOAN OF SPRING

Master Truong, the old Fearless of the emperor, is nearing the end of his life and he has not yet found his successor. The country has to be prepared for war and the Emperor is furiously impatient. He gives him two weeks to find him one.

Master Truong goes to visit a famous General (Master Wing) who had disappeared to become a simple fisherman. He lives with his two son (Tin and Tan) and her daughter (Lan, with a disfigured face) on the shores of the Lake Ba Bê.

Master Truong knows very well the legend of the lake but this time he will really understand its meaning. He tells master Wing he wants to test his two sons. Disappointed by their results, he tests also Lan.

He has finally found the person who has all the qualities to succeed him. Unhappy, one more time, things are not that simple. Master Truong will return to the palace without a successor but with something more precious.

“KOAN OF SPRING reflected the personal and original styl of director Lou Ma Ho. Not only the subject of his stories, of his tales, which of the charm works with humor, elegance and lightness, but his subtle way to play with the codes of Asian imagery”, says the production note.

“His way of telling, to stretch time in order to give at the narration its internal rhythm, like a heartbeat, the nature and the body holding a central role in the symbolism of the story. His poetic universe: these paintins come from elsewhere at the enchanting atmosphere and nourished by this philosophy made of malic and humanity.”
