An intimate look into Cambodian courtship by an American director.
“I spent a year in Cambodia working at a non profit. I was mired in the darkness of child sex trafficking, labor trafficking, corruption, and trauma issues within the country but also saw and experienced a lot of hope. Because of the extreme decrease in child sex trafficking that’s occurred over the past 12 years due the training and collaboration between the police, the courts, the local nonprofits, and the government social workers, I saw hope and excitement. I planned to make a short about the Khmer Rouge genocide or trafficking in Cambodia, but I came to the conclusion that Cambodia deserved more. I wanted to show more sides to the prism of the country. Courtship and relationships is just one fascinating aspect of Khmer culture, but I am glad to have been able to share it.”
